30th December 2009

The U13s training situation is clarified on the All Saints link to the left.

29th December 2009

Just a quick pre New Year update. Please see the information about All Saints and how this affects training, if you train there, on the left. Please click the Sharks logo (top right) for an update with the senior Sharks.

Finally well done to the England U18s who got to the Haris Tournament final today, ex-Shark Devon Van Oostrum was England’s top scorer, closely followed by John Stewart. Unfortunately not enough to stop the Germans and by the looks of it Malik Muler in particular. Click here for the Final stats.

Well done to them and also the junior Sharks working out with the seniors in the Christmas camp today and tomorrow.

23rd December 2009

The final report for this year is on the Christmas Party last night. Those who attended were treated to the U13s/U14s doing a take on DJ talent, this time it was the Sharks that had the talent. The U15s did an interesting interpretation of Jedwards Ghostbusters but the rumoured U16s/U18s Chippendales performance did not happen! Many thanks to the Hatters who organised the event and their team performances (A Christmas song, Diversity, Lady Gaga & the Jacksons) and we hope you all had safe journeys back home.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the report writers, who provide us with most of the information here and all reports from all matches for this season can now be found on the site.

So, only one thing left to say as we end the year: The Junior Sharks’ Basketball club would like to wish players, coaches, families, supporters, officials and everyone else associated with Basketball in Sheffield a very Merry Christmas and a great New Year. See you in the next decade!

21st December 2009

Annual Haris Basketball Tournament

For those who may miss basketball action over the Christmas period, there’s a tournament taking place over the Pennines:

The annual Haris Tournament (click here and then choose Haris Tournament from the left-hand side) is taking place 27th, 28th and 29th December over at the Amaechi Basketball Centre in Manchester.

England U18s will feature John Stewart and Devon Van-Oostrum, home from Spain for a couple of weeks holiday. Others on the England U18 back from their Christmas break: Joe Hart (Blair Academy), Vince van Nes (Northfield Mount Hermon), Rema Lascelles (Gran Canaria Academy) and more.

Alumni Update

Talking of Devon, he’s been doing well in Spain, playing for the 2nd team in the men’s first division there. He’s had some interesting web write-ups: Link 1Link 2 and Link 3 will take you to these.

20th December 2009

When the Sharks were wishing that 2009 would end with a flurry it was more the result against Manchester that they were thinking about, not the weather. So the year comes to an end with all the teams riding high in their respective divisions. The U14 and U18 reports are now posted and we’ll try and get all reports up-to-date before shutting up shop for a few weeks. The last site updates will be this coming Wednesday.

Notice: Today's match; U18 vs Manchester was postponed due to the weather.

19th December 2009

In the words of Meatloaf two out of three aint bad. The U14s maintained their form with an away win at Leeds, The U18s won due to a third quarter turnaround (did they made it hard for themselves again? We await the report). Meanwhile the U15s, who seemed to have the toughest match couldn’t quite hang on to a one point half time lead to get pipped at the post, a sterling performance otherwise we hear.

A potential game of the season tomorrow at EIS with the U18s against Manchester Magic. If you can escape Christmas duties, we’ll see you there? (we'll try and confirm or otherwise due to potential weather problems!)

17th December 2009

U13s, details about practice times over the Christmas period are at the bottom of the U13 information page.

16th December 2009

No predictions this weekend as all matches look potentially (or are!) tough this weekend. So we hope everyone can dig deep and that the support is strong.

Instead we’ll concentrate on yet more international honours. Tommy Price from the U15s has been selected to play for the 1995 boys, Welsh Elite National Development Squad. Congratulations to both him and his family on this honour.

Late news: The U18 cup game report now posted.

15th December 2009

Those that are observant may have noticed that there are a two intentional updates: the opponents for the U18s in the next round of the cup are Cheshire Jets and the tip off for Saturday’s U18 game at Birmingham is now 2.15pm.

14th December 2009

As of writing, the reports from all of the U13s, U14s and U16s games are on the website as well as a full preview of the two U18s matches this coming weekend. We’ll keep you informed when others appear.

13th December 2009

Magnificence personified as the Sharks U15s and U16s ease past the opposition in their fixtures today. The U18s gave us all a scare but came back victorious. The Sharks can bask tonight, well done everyone in all teams this weekend, seven out of seven!

12th December 2009

Part one of the weekend is over as the Sharks win four out of four. The U13s seem to have been tested most in their second game away at Leicester but apart from that all seems well. Part 2 tomorrow.

10th December 2009

Before we preview this weekend, just to let you know that the report from the fantastic U18 victory last weekend in Manchester is now on the website.

Back to this weekend and it’s the busiest of the season so far and maybe yet another successful clean sweep? The U13s have gone six out of six this season so far and looking at the opposition this weekend, although they’ll need to keep their wits about them, they should continue with their winning ways. The U14s have a home fixture against Doncaster who they’ve already beaten comfortably this season away. The U15s are away at York but looking at the tables the York team that won the league two seasons ago don’t seem to be as strong this season. The last league fixture sees the U16s travelling the long journey to Newcastle, but again if they’re at the peak of their game, this should be OK.

There are then two cup games for the U16s and U18s, but again looking a both past results and leagues these seem to be winnable games.

So seven games this weekend and we’re sticking our neck out and predicting that it will be a magnificent seven! Our support goes with you.

Elsewhere in the world of basketball the Senior sharks have a double header against Leicester this weekend in the cup semi final over two legs. The first is at EIS on Friday, tip off 7.30 and the fans are looking at a weekend in Birmingham in January. The joys of basketball!

6th December 2009

Those that sacrificed Christmas shopping, for the Shark’s match this afternoon, were not disappointed with the outcome as the weekend ended with all teams winning. This and the first U13 report posted. So, two more weekends of matches until the big guy in the red suit turns up!

5th December 2009

High drama at Springs today as the U13s come from behind to run out overtime victors in their second match against Notts. Coupled with a previous win against Northants they maintain their 100% start to the season. More drama over the Pennines as the U18s once again beat Manchester Magic, this time by 1 point. Finally in the local Derby the U15s ease past Rotherham. Another great basketball Saturday for Sheffield and the Sharks. Let's hope the weekend continues tomorrow as our support goes out to the U16s at EIS tip off 2.15pm..
