27th February 2010
The U15s move forward to the next round of the play offs away to Northants next weekend (See Play Offs button). The points were amassed early in the game against Barrow before seemingly grinding to a halt. The U16s had a successful foray over to the West and finally U18s lose the latest installment of the basketball battle of the roses.
Let's hope the U16s have a similar success tomorrow in Manchester.

The weekend preview was not forthcoming this week as it allowed us to keep the information on the U18s Cup victory on the front page for that little bit longer.
If you are looking for the picture, report and stats please note that you will now find it using the Cup button on the right. In the meantime there’s a video from last Sunday on the Past glories - Video page. Other news from the U18 camp is that John Stewart is selected for the England U18 team to go and play in Cherbourg April 1st to 5th
Back to this weekend and we see the U15s starting their play off journey against the third place North West team Barrow Thorns, the U16s face a potentially tough Cheshire Jets side away and as we know the U18s play Manchester Magic. All the best.
25th February 2010

U16 report from the weekend also posted on the site.

U18 Sureshout Cup Champions 2010, MVP: John Stewart
The heavy covering of snow that hit Sheffield this morning was not the best preparation for the U18s final today. However they managed to cross the Pennines and after a deserved victory they will now be making the journey back crowned Sureshot Cup champions 2010. A great win to all involved with the team and the club.
20th February 2010
The second of our teams to complete their regular season and to progress to the play offs are the U15s. Their abandoned match against Newcastle was concluded today with the score 73-69 in favour of the Sharks and straight after that they beat York to take second place in the North East league. We’ll preview the play offs later. Our predictions were slightly awry with the U18s only managing a narrow victory in their Cup Final eve fixture. Let’s see if the U14s can make it four out of four tomorrow.
Speaking of which, we hope all the travelling fans have safe journeys tomorrows and that “our day out” is the best of days. The Club’s best wishes go with you all in the Cup Final.
17th February 2010
Weekend Preview: Using previous encounters between the teams as an indicator of toughness for this weekend’s league matches we’d rank them U16, U14, U18, U15 from hardest downwards. Last time they met though, the results were all in the Shark's favour, so will it be the same? As stated on numerous occasions, that’s not always how basketball plays itself out, but four wins would be nice, so no pressure!
Finally some extra news: The abandoned U15 match against Newcastle will be continued with the 5 minutes of overtime being played at Springs at 10.30am prior to the team’s other fixture and the final U13 report from the weekend is now on the site.
15th February 2010
The first U13 report and the U14 and U18 reports now on the site. In the run up to the U18 Sureshot Cup Final see the preview above.
14th February 2010
All goes to plan this weekend with the U14s, U15s and U18s doing enough to win their fixtures. The only blip was a defeat by Derbyshire for the U13s. We still have to wait for their league’s final positions, but we see they have the better head to head result against potential join leaders Notts. Fingers crossed that this has been calculated correctly and they get home advantage in the play offs.
Meanwhile a good half term break to our players it applies to.
12th February 2010
Just a few notes before the weekend action starts. The U15 report from last week is now on the site. Also there may be a delay with results being put on the site this weekend. However, they should appear first on our twitter page, if all goes to plan.
Here’s a quote from Abe Lemons to inspire your weekend ball games: There are really only two plays: Romeo and Juliet, and put the darn ball in the basket.
10th February 2010
This weekend sees the U13s completing their regular league season fixtures away against Derby and Leicester. If the results go the way that they did last time they met, then it should mean they top the East Midlands League which should give home advantage in the play offs. They play off schedule is on the EBL site (follow the National League, League table link and it’s after all the tables) but it doesn’t seem to follow the same logic for the U13s as other age groups and has us baffled. We’ll therefore come back to the play offs and speculation later in the season.
Meanwhile the U14s, U15s and U18s have return fixtures against opposition that has already been beaten this season. We can’t make assumptions though, as the U14s and U18s have long journeys to the North East, have safe journeys.
Finally there is a half term, Activity Sheffield, basketball camp at All Saints next Monday and Tuesday. Please click here for more details; it is aimed at 8-14 year olds and if you are interested we suggest you contact them expressing your interest as soon as you can.
9th February 2010
If you’d noticed the discrepancy between the U13 "Fixtures & Results" page and this home page, it has now been rectified and we can confirm that the U13 fixtures are this weekend on the 13th as also stated in the 3rd February bulletin. Apologies for the confusion.
8th February 2010
BREAKING NEWS: For anyone awaiting the decision on the abandoned U15 match we have just been informed that the match is to be continued with the outstanding overtime to be played, i.e. it will carry on from where it left off with the teams carrying their fouls into the OT period. No date/time has yet to be set, but this needs to be done by 16th February. For those involved in this, further details will come from the normal club communication channels.
The U16s and U18s reports from both their league and cup matches have been added today.
7th February 2010
Disappointment today as the U16s falter at the Sureshot Cup semi finals as their fourth quarter surge was too little too late. Good news though as the U18s beat Leicester Warriors in their cup match to book a place in the final against Bristol Academy Flyers in 2 weeks time. U14 report from yesterday now posted on the site.
6th February 2010
The U14s eventually gathered a head of steam to dispose of Newcastle, whilst the U18s seem to have endured a rocky second quarter, but are victors against Doncaster in today’s home fixtures.
The U16s preparation for the Cup semi final goes well with an away win at Northants. Finally we hear the U15s amass 109 points in their victory away at Leeds, we’ll confirm the score in the morning! Let’s hope the victories today are an omen for more wins tomorrow.
The last thanks for the day is to all those that stepped in to help out with the home fixtures and the U15s today. One the team’s most important member was greatly missed as “our Jan” was otherwise busy. You’ll be pleased to hear that It’s good news from the camp of Jan and she also sends her personal thanks to everyone today.
3rd February 2010
A brief weekend preview this week: There’s no such thing as an easy fixture in basketball, but there are some matches that you know will be very tough. All of the U14, U15, U16 and U18 league fixtures seem to fit somewhere in the middle of this spectrum. So there are no matches that should be high octane, intense battles, but you can’t count your chickens…
Sunday is a Sureshot Cup double cup semi final for the U16s and U18s. It would be a great achievement for the junior sharks to contest both finals on the 21st February in Manchester. The U18 preview is below and the U16s take on two time national champions Milton Keynes. Tip off is at 4.15 on Sunday at All Saints for the U16s. It unfortunately clashes with ex junior sharks coach Mike Talbot’s team in the Women’s National Trophy Final (all the best to them) but if you can make it to All Saints, then make some noise to cheer them on, your support is welcome.
Please also note that the next U13 fixture has now been changed to February 13th from previously the 14th.
1st February 2010
Yesterday’s U16 match report now on the website. There is also the latest edition of Zone Press, which has details of another award for ex shark Devon Van Oostrum (page 5)
Of course, the big occasions is on Sunday over at Manchester and unless you haven’t noticed we have an extended preview. Just need to echo that and to wish all the best to the team and travelling supporters. If you can’t make it, but have access to a computer, use the Live Stats link above to follow the action. It will be on Twitter at some point too.
The team have also received a message of support from Sheffield's Lord Mayor (pictured). Click the picture to read the message.
