23rd March 2010

The U14s Play Off fixture has now been confirmed. It is at All Saints, this Sunday at 2.15pm vs Bradford. For anyone affected by the current drought of basketball this is strongly recommended as an to aid to recovery. Another beneficial suggested treatment is a trip to Nottingham on Saturday.

Thanks to the U15s for providing the final match report for their regular season. The incident packed U15 match against Newcastle that lasted over three weeks has now been posted.

22nd March 2010

We will look at the U13s Final Fours adventures and U14 play offs later in the week. Before that we have news of a very important event, with yet another individual honour for a Shark’s player.

The event is this Wednesday at Headingly Stadium Leeds. It is the Keith Mitchell Memorial Celebration. For those that want to know about Keith’s contribution to Basketball click here and for more information about the event click here.

The Junior Sharks would like to take this opportunity to support the celebration of Keith’s life.

As part of the celebration there is the inaugural presentation of the Keith Mitchell Memorial Award. This is being bestowed on John Stewart one of the Shark’s U18 and England players. This is a great honour for John, his family and also the Club, congratulations.

17th March 2010

Whilst the Junior Sharks have a bit of a respite before the final quarter of the season the BBL Senior Sharks seem to having an intense period. Details of their forthcoming matches as well as information of an Easter camp and the Shark’s annual Dinner can be found by clicking their logo (top right).

Meanwhile we’ve posted the last two reports from the U18s league matches. Oh and it’s St Patrick’s day!

Final Fours here we come. In what must rate as one of their closest matches of the season the U13s dug deep and came good in the last quarter to pip City of Birmingham to the Final Fours. (see Twitter page for quarter scores). A big congratulations to all the players, families and supporters. For some it’s their second Final Fours visit, but for many in their first season as junior Sharks it is a great way to end the season, whatever happens you have a great day out to look forward to. Well done from everyone!

U16 match report from yesterday posted.

13th March 2010

A great U16 performance saw them dispatch Trafford today whilst the U18s did enough to beat Birmingham. A highlight of the afternoon was a presentation to Steve Barnett for him and Sian by players from all of the Shark’s teams. This is in celebration of their first child who is imminently due. Steve, Sian & Bump send out a great thank you to everyone.

All eyes are now on the U13s and Birmingham for tomorrow’s quarter final showdown, the club is rooting for you.

10th March 2010

Three very important fixtures this weekend and previews in order of importance?

The numbers 1 and 3 that make up 13 take on an extra meaning this weekend. The U13s either have 1 or 3 matches left this season. If they win on Sunday they are guaranteed an extra 2 matches at the final fours on the 27th March in Nottingham. Their opponents on Sunday are an unknown quantity at this level; what we do know is that they are unbeaten this season, but only won their last game by 1. Hard to call but obviously we are willing the Sharks on to push for the club’s second silverware this season.

The importance of the U16’s game against Trafford is due to the seedings of the play offs. The top two North Premier are seeded to meet the top two South Premier in the Final Fours and also getting home advantage on the way. Home court advantage and not having to play one of the South’s top two teams counts for a lot, to assure this, a victory is required at Springs on Saturday. All support welcome in another roses match.

Finally the U18s are in a similar position in their last match against Birmingham. A win would clinch second place but if not Birmingham would still need an unbeaten run in to dislodge the Sharks. This follows on from the U16 match if you want an afternoon of action!

Please return during the day/week as weekend reports filter through. The following have been posted so far: U13s Play Off vs Manchester II, U14s vs Doncaster, U18s vs Trafford (plus preview) and the U16 stats.

U13s time/date confirmed for quarter final play offs, awaiting location confirmation.

7th March 2010

The U14s eventually get going to win their last league match and now take a well earned rest before the play offs in 3 weeks time.

The U18s visit to Northants bears more fruit than yesterday's U15 visit as they seem to run riot in the last quarter and come away with their biggest win of the season. Well done to all.

6th March 2010

Today’s main news is that the U15s season came to an end. The match was one of the games of the season, with the knock out stages bringing added atmosphere, drama and tension that unfortunately saw the Sharks edged out. Not only did the team and supporters take away heartache but at least pride in the performance.

Meanwhile in the play off the U13s brushed aside Manchester II to move to the quarter finals. They now play City of Birmingham next week.

In the regular league fixtures both the U16s and U18s record victories, whilst the U14s look to finish their league season with a 100% record tomorrow away in Doncaster. All the best to them and the U18s who also play away at Northants.

5th March 2010

Report from last night's U14 match posted.

4th March 2010

The U14s continue their winning ways by defeating Leeds Carnegie tonight. We'll confirm the score tomorrow on the fixture and results section. Last league match this Sunday for them

3rd March 2010

This week a quick look at the Play Offs. As the U16s, U18s and U14s wind down their regular season (don’t wind down too fast lads) we look at a common factor this year for the lower age groups. You may look on this commonality as a positive or negative but what we are talking about is Manchester Magic.

The U13s find Manchester blocking their route to the being champions not once, but twice. They play Magic II this Saturday, but if this and the fixture against Birmingham are navigated then they face Magic I in the semis. In the U14 camp we find that Manchester only came second in their North West league. This puts them on course for a quarter final showdown with the Sharks. Similarly as the U15s came second in the North East they have a similar fixture awaiting them in the quarters!

But let’s not jump ahead. The U13s face Manchester II at Springs at 1.00 pm. If you can make it, let’s use the home court support to move them onto the next round. Also, the U15s are travelling away to Northants, a fixture they need to win to progress. So one step at a time and all the best.

There is a re-arranged fixture for the U14s this Thursday evening against Leeds Carnegie if you fancy some mid-week basketball?

Late news: If you've been looking for last weekend reports they're all now on the site.

1st March 2010

The U13s play offs have now become clear. They face a fixture against Manchester Magic II (runners up to Manchester Magic I) this Saturday at home. A victory means they then travel away to Birmingham to play the winners of City Of Birmingham and Birmingham As for a place in the Final Fours in Nottingham. The journey starts now!

U16 weekend match reports now added to the site.
