Sharks vs Derbyshire Arrows
The new look Sharks started their campaign on Saturday 17th with only 3 returning from last year. They were facing the Derbyshire Arrows in the first National game of the year.
It was fitting that new boy Ross Cawton scored the first basket of the campaign. Marko Backovic and George Darling then got in on the act and between the three of them scored all but 2 points in the first quarter. Sam Thompson did some excellent rebounding and was able to score the other 2 points this gave the Sharks a 19-4 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was a bit disappointing as the Arrows out scored us 8-5. Subs were made and Alex Martin, Paddy Meleady-Hemme and Xavier McIntosh came on. For their first season at national league level they proved to be more than capable of holding their own on court.
The third quarter saw subs of Nathaniel Montgomery, Cameron Newton and Joel Fordham come on. Once again they proved worthy of wearing the Sharks kit as they were able to hold the Arrows to a level score of the quarter. George Darling hit good 3 pointer and Sam Van Oostrum got in on the act with a basket of his own.
The last quarter saw the Sharks outscore the Arrows by 12-10 and the first game was in the bag. The Sharks were eventual winners by 44-30.
