The second visit to Derby of the season and the Sharks were in a confident mood. Unfortunately things didn’t go to plan. Derby came out stronger from the tip and were pounding the Sharks basket. Defensively they were a lot stronger than us and added to the fact that every shot and layup for us somehow managed to miss or roll round the rim and pop out Derby held the Sharks to 0 points for the quarter while they scored 10. The only real chance was Marko at the line for 2 but again they just wouldn’t drop.
A slight improvement in the second quarter saw Marko, Ross and George score a basket a piece to give us our first 6 points of the game. Derby were still keeping the pressure on and did out score us by 13 to 6. Our defending was still non-existent apart from Jake who for me had an outstanding game on defence.
Third quarter was much the same as the first two with the Sharks unable to look after the ball too many missed shots and layups silly passes which were easily intercepted and generally not working together as a team and lack of defence meant that once again Derby outscored us with Marko and Ross getting the only 2 baskets this period. Jake did get fouled on a drive to basket but couldn’t convert the 2 points.
Fourth quarter was a lot better from the Sharks as we beat Derby by 16 to 8 team work and defence stepped up but it was too little too late.
As a team we really need to sit down and reflect on what we did as a team and how we can improve as a team. If we are going to get anywhere in the playoffs we need to give 100% focus and attention in training and games.
