First Quarter

The first game of 2010 was against Derby Trailblazers. As we hadn’t played these before they were an unknown entity. Marko tipped the ball to George who then gave a nice pass back to Marko for the first 2 points of the game. The very next possession George hit a long 3 pointer. Dominic then got in on the act with a drive to basket which he didn’t score but he did get fouled and went to the line making 1 from 2. The Sharks were 6 points up before Derby got on the score board. Another drive by Marko saw him fouled but couldn’t convert the 2 free shots. There was some very good defending by Alex during this quarter and he was making it tough for Derby to get through to basket. Some excellent team work and passing allowed George to get another basket then again he hit another 3 pointer. Marko bagged another 6 points with Cameron Newton getting his first points in a national league game with a big 3 point shot of his own. George finishing this quarter with 2 free throws which he made both.

Second Quarter

This saw Sam VO, Paddy, Joel and Nathaniel come on at different stages. Marko & George got 4 & 6 points respectively. Some good ball handling from Nathaniel and some quick feet on defence gave Derby some problems in this ¼. Joel did a nice drive to basket which resulted in 2 points and Sam VO hit 2 straight after. Ross was doing a good job on rebounding and putting into practice what he had learnt in training the day before. Paddy ended the Sharks scoring with a nice layup of his own but Derby’s # 23 hit a last second 3 pointer. This meant that Derby won this ¼ by 1 point.

Third Quarter

George started this by getting fouled and hitting 2 from the line which gave him 100% for this game. Marko, Ross, Sam VO and George bagged all of the 15 points in this quarter but some really good defensive work by Xavier and giving plenty of hustle kept the Sharks out in front. This ended with the Sharks outscoring Derby 15-6.

Fourth Quarter.

Two from George started the final stanza with Marko adding the next 4 points. Another big 3 pointer from George and 2 quick baskets from Ross with 1 from the line nearly wrapped the game up but the last shot of the match for the Sharks belonged to Xavier with a nice 2 points for him.
