Please note this is a scoresheet narrative.
David failed to get the Sharks onto the scoresheet at the free throw line before Marcus got his first basket. Newcastle soon replied before Daniel and Marcus extended the lead. However with 6 minutes gone it was a tight game with the Sharks only leading by two, 6-4. Once again the Shark’s depth kicked as Marcus seemed to be finding the basket with ease and support was coming from Michael, ConorDS, Eddy and ConnorD. So with six of the squad adding to the score they pulled away to a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The scoresheet is littered with fouls against the Sharks in the second quarter with six sets of free throws being awarded to Newcastle. But as they only scored three points from these free throws and that was their total score this half it implies they had no other way to the basket. Meanwhile Kenneth and Tyler were the new names on the scoresheet with Eddy, Marcus Daniel and ConnorD being the others. However ConnorD, Marcus and Josh were all on 4 fouls at half-time.
The refs must have thought Marcus had done enough damage as he was forced to sit out the second half after being fouled out in the first minute of the third quarter. With still two players on 4 fouls how would the Sharks respond? The answer seems to sum up their spirit with ConnorD and Josh adding 15 to the Sharks total. Eddy said he got a three during this match, sorry to disappoint you Eddy, but the scoresheet credits you with a pair of treys. George decided to register his presence this quarter as well as another couple of baskets from ConorDS.
So with the game seemingly well and truly won it looks like the bench was played and again they didn’t let the side down. Michael and David both drew fouls and got baskets, ConorDS was there to get another basket and George and Kenneth added to their total. It all reads like a job well done.
So, from an objective point of view another game where all the squad got on the scoresheet and this was playing after a long journey and what some would call a partisan atmosphere. To be honest what we would expect from one of the county’s top teams, keep up the good work.
