U16 Sharks vs Manchester

The Sharks welcomed old rivals Manchester Magic to All Saints for what many had anticipated to be a clash of the titans and one of the season’s best games. For a number of reasons, not all of them yet understood, this was not to be. The opening minutes were competitive as Sharks took an early 4 point lead but this was to be Sheffield’s only time in front. Credit must be given to Manchester who completely and utterly outworked the hosts in every way possible. Their ultra-aggressive defence caused countless turnovers and a well organised offense was complimented with some accurate shooting from their guards and strong inside play from their forwards. It was a miserable 40mins for the Sharks, particularly as Aidan Appleyard suffered a dislocated knee and will be out of action for some time.

Excuses could be made but the cold hard truth is that while there is little difference in skill between the two teams the gap in heart and intensity was, on this day enormous and at many times embarrassing. Manchester thoroughly deserved the victory and will take some beating in their current form.

This should serve as motivation for the Sharks and galvanise their season with a new found sense of intensity and purpose.
