U16 Sharks vs Northants
Sharks 2039 5572
Northants 9 26 4257
The Sharks were determined to put right the wrongs of the previous week when Northants came to visit. After a much improved effort during practices Sheffield looked set for a big win and the opening Quarter was promising. The juniors energy on defence was much improved and caused the Thunder problems. Unfortunately, some poor finishing meant that the home side’s early dominance was not reflected on the scoreboard. This would give a well organised team like Northants a chance at a comeback.
This proved to be the case as the visitors began to chip away at the Sharks’ lead until the gap was only 3 points. Sheffield responded well and stretched the lead back out to 15 points by the final buzzer.
The negative aspects of this performance were turnovers, poor finishing and an offense that is still not firing on all cylinders. However it was a positive step forward in terms of intensity which in the 1st half was approaching the level it needs to be at. If the Sharks can learn to maintain this high energy style for 40 mins they will again be a force to be reckoned with.
It was also good to see many of the U15s contributing well whilst playing up an age group, as Dale, Dennis and Lemar made positive contributions.
